It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Makenzie “Kenzie” Kilgour, who passed away tragically on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the age of 21.

Kenzie was an only child and the beloved daughter of Alicia “Eva” Subnaik Kilgour and David “Tom” Kilgour. Her beloved spouse Thomas Selwyn who she loved with all her heart and was the love of her life. In her last Valentine’s Day letter she handwrote him, she wrote “There truly isn’t another person in this galaxy… no… the Universe that I could ever love more than I Love you, Thomas.” He will be eternally grateful to have even met her, getting luckier than winning the lottery with her. He loved her with his whole heart, body and soul. They shared a huge love of motorcycles.

Cherished granddaughter of Rambaran Subnaik and a treasured niece of Ria and Kyle MacDonald. She was loved by all her other Aunts, Uncles, cousins and extended family.

Kenzie was a student at Carleton University studying Biology and she wanted to join the military as a medical officer. She envisioned becoming a military couple with her Thomas one day. She leaves behind a circle of family and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts, including her friends from youth and her tightknit family of friends she made in Ottawa, who were the most  loving and supportive.

Kenzie was also a dedicated lifeguard and swim instructor who took great pride in helping others stay safe around the water. She loved teaching water safety, sharing her knowledge and skills with others and helping families, and children (especially with special needs), develop confidence and respect for the water. Her caring nature, sense of responsibility, and willingness to help others were qualities that made her so special to many.

Though her life was far too short, she brought love, kindness, laughter, and warmth to all those around her. The memories of her beautiful spirit and the difference she made in the lives of others will remain with her family and friends forever.

Digital Guestbook

  1. I didn’t know Kenzie very well, but the few times we did see each other, she was always kind and fun to be around. Rest in peace 🕊️

  2. My heartfelt condolences to Alicia, David, Thomas, and the rest of Kenzie’s family and friends. Kenzie was a beloved friend of my daughter, Mary. I had the pleasure of meeting Kenzie several times while visiting Mary at residence at Carleton University and later at the house they shared on Willard Street. Kenzie always had a kind, gentle manner and a beautiful smile. It brought me great comfort to know that Mary had such a wonderful friend, and I will always remember Kenzie fondly.

  3. We will miss you, Kenzie! Thank you for being a wonderful friend to my son, Jaedon, and huge part of his life, and ours.
