Condolences to the family from all members of the Edmonton and E Branches of the PPCLI Association. I never had the pleasure of meeting Don in person. We did over many years on the Board of Directors with the Association have many a great chats, and lots of phones call. He was a very nice man who was always there to aid me in my journey to make the Association membership and it data base better. I am sorry for your loss. He was a great man. May he Rest in Peace. At the doing down of the sun and in the morning we will remember him. VP

We would like to send our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the Dalziel family.
Don’s passing is very devastating to our family. He was a friend, a mentor and PPCLI Association colleague. When rejoining the PPCLI Association he was instrumental and a motivating force for me, and my continual and increased involvement with the Ottawa Branch. He understood and supported me especially during challenging times with my current academic upgrading. He took the time to meet and know each of my family members inclusive of my grand children. He motivated me to put ideas into actions (especially the five-year charity bicycle ride event during and after the pandemic and came out on site at the start/finish line). That’s just who Don was!
My eldest daughter received a PPCLI Association Bursary in 2014 presented to her by Don, an incredibly humbling and proud moment for us all, and Don too was proud of her in my discussions with him.
The PPCLI Association Ottawa Branch Remembrance Day service at Beechwood’s Sacred Space, the very Space where we will say our final farewells to Don, was Don’s brainchild, and will forever be his lasting and beautiful legacy piece – at least in my eyes.
Don leaves a great hole in our hearts, in our Regiment, our Association, in our community. Thank you Don for your service, for embracing our lives.
I was humbled to visit you on August 7th, and say my personal farewell to you then, and we will be at your public farewell on September 8th to say our final farewells.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends on Don’s passing. Regrettably, I did not have the privilege of knowing him during my own years of service. We were introduced approximately twelve years ago, amid preparations for the 100th Anniversary of the PPCLI Regiment. As President of the Ottawa Branch of the PPCLI Association, Don extended to me the invitation to join its membership, an organization dedicated to uniting serving and former members of the regiment in the bonds of comradeship. To my knowledge, his Regimental Coin #33 went unchallenged throughout his tenure.
I valued our conversations as one veteran to another greatly. Don was a kind and generous warrior of the old school, one who embodied the best of the sentiment “Once a Patricia, Always a Patricia” in word and deed. He will be remembered with great fondness by all who had the honour of his acquaintance.
At the setting of the sun, we will remember him, Rest in Peace my friend, VP.

I first met Don when we both served in the RHQ of the Cdn AB Regt back in 1968. Although I’m from the “other English-speaking regiment “, Don and I clicked as like-minded soldiers. He was a joy to work with then, and in our later years, we often got together in a pub in New Edinburgh to quaff a libation and swap war stories. I also visited him when he was in hospital to try and help him keep up his spirits.
Don was a great guy, and I will miss him!

Don and I go back to 1964 when I joined the 2nd Battalion Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. He became the Adjutant shortly thereafter. Following a tour in Cyprus in 1967 (our Canada Centennial Project) our paths diverged and then connected again at Staff College in Kingston in 1971-72 and at various times at NDHQ Ottawa. Don was highly valued and respected with all those who served with him. In retirement, he kept in contact, relaying messages about colleagues in Ottawa and elsewhere. Carol and I offer our sincere condolences to Janice and the members of the family. Rest in Peace, Soldier. Your duty is done and done exceptionally well!

A true gentleman and friend to many Patricias, but not only Patricias. He was a steady hand at the helm for the Association branch and the enduring presence of Patricias in Ottawa. Our deepest condolences to his family, from ours. Our thoughts will be you on the 8th and we will be there in spirit.

I am so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. Our paths crossed on a few occasions during our careers and I always remembered Don as a true officer and gentleman. He was a joy to be around and a professional through and through. He will be missed. VP. Airborne!

Don will be greatly missed. His steadfast dedication and genuine affection for the Regiment and its families was an inspiration. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
