With profound sadness, her family announces Carol’s passing, on Wednesday July 29, 2026 at the age of 82 after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Carol will be dearly missed by her children Sean (Kristen San Giacomo), Tara (Michael Shephard), and Burke (Tammy). Proud Nana of Kaitlyn, Connor, Jake, Matthew, Addison and Alexa. Cherished sister of Lyn Ryan (Brian) and Mark Gromoll (Nancy). Predeceased by her parents Marguerite and Edgar Gromoll, and brother-in-law Hugh Ryan. Beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, and dearly remembered by many friends.
Carol was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren. Her enduring love, generous heart, and constant support were the foundation of her family, and her presence will be missed profoundly. Carol cherished her role as Nana and took immense pride in her grandchildren. She found great joy in cheering them on at every opportunity, whether at a hockey, lacrosse or soccer game, or any other event they were part of. Rarely missing a game, she was often the first to arrive, eager to claim the best seat and celebrate every milestone, big or small. Whether it was a holiday or a simple family get-together, she delighted in being with family.
Carol shared a very special bond with her siblings and their children, built on love and laughter. Their compassion and deep devotion meant more to Carol than words can express. The family will always be grateful for the care and companionship they gave so generously.
Carol’s zest for life and her gift for forming meaningful connections with family and friends defined the way she lived. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the many friendships Carol cultivated throughout her life, with her neighbours, community members, high school friends and through her career as a teacher. Her commitment to student success and growth was seen throughout her career as a dedicated teacher. These lasting connections brought her great joy, and enriched her life in countless ways.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, August 21st at Our Lady of Visitation Roman Catholic Church, 5338 Bank Street, Gloucester, ON for a memorial Mass at 11:00, with a time of refreshment and fellowship to follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be appreciated.
Her memory will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched, and she will be lovingly remembered always.
