It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Chaytor, who died on June 18, 2026, at the age of 87 in Ottawa.
Ron will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, his genuine warmth, and his immense capacity to care for others. Above all else, he was fiercely and deeply dedicated to his beloved spouse, Carol, with whom he built a lifetime of cherished memories.
Ron was born in St John’s NFLD. Predeceased by his parents Ellen and Gregory Chaytor, and Joan his sister. Survived by his loving wife Carol of 63 years and brother Stan and sisters Barbara and Anna of B.C.
A man of great integrity and patriotism, Ron served Canada with distinction in Rome, Vienna, London, Beirut and Mexico City. He was a proud and dedicated member of both the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), committing his professional life to the safety and security of his country.
When he wasn’t serving his country, Ron could almost always be found enjoying the water. He was an avid cruiser who found boundless joy both at the helm of his own boats and exploring the world aboard cruise ships. His love for the water and the outdoors naturally extended to his community involvement, as he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Friends in Sport Fishing.
Ron leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service, laughter, and steadfast devotion to those he loved. He will be profoundly missed by his family, his friends, and his former colleagues.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre on Saturday, July 4th, 2026 from 11am to 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catch a Smile – Friends in Sport Fishing or the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation.
