It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrude Gravelle (née Simard), who passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the age of 101.

Born in La Malbaie, Québec, on June 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Cyrille Simard and the late Elzire Blouin. She was the beloved wife of the late Maurice Gravelle.

Gertrude was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love of life, and her generous spirit.

She is survived by her children, Gilbert (Paule Dufour), Francine (Ken Jessome), and Philippe (Bin Wang); her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; her sister, Jeanette Simard; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Having lived a long and fulfilling life spanning more than a century, Gertrude leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and cherished memories.

Gertrude was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Whether playing cards, enjoying games, or sharing stories and laughter, she had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her strength, wisdom, and unconditional love shaped the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

In her later years, Gertrude made her home at Portobello Manor, where she formed many cherished friendships and enjoyed the warmth of a vibrant community. Her family is deeply grateful to the staff for their kindness, compassion, and dedicated care.

A Celebration of Getrude’s Life will be held at Beechwood National Memorial Centre (280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON), on Sunday June 28, 2026. The family will receive condolences from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m followed by the celebration of life at 11 a.m and a reception from 12 p.m to 2 p.m. The interment will take place at a later date in the privacy of the family.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
