The Fortin (Aussant) family regrets to announce the passing of Mrs. Laurette Fortin (Aussant), who died on May 7, 2026, at the age of 93. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugues Fortin and the daughter of the late Omer and Irène Aussant.
She is survived by her children: Marc Fortin (Diane Hamelin), Lynda Fortin (Yvon Roy),and Ronald Fortin; her grandchildren: Jean‑François Bélair, Roch Fortin (Catherine L. Cousineau), Jean‑Luc Bélair (Roxanne Rivest), and Valérie Fortin (Gérard Hubert Etienne); as well as her great‑grandchildren: Daphnée, Kloée, Aleph, and Anya; as well as her brothers and sisters: late Henry ( late Helen) Aussant, late Yvette (late Henry) Levasseur, late Emile (Susan) Aussant, late Aline (late Bill) Boreski, late Béatrice (Willis) McDowell, late Ronald (Jerri) Aussant, Simonne (Dean) Peat, Gilles (Olga) Aussant, Agnes (late Kitch) Mesher, Claude Aussant and late Alain Aussant.
She also leaves behind many nieces, and nephews, especially her niece Angèle Schiltz, to whom she was very close.
Laurette enjoyed a career as a real estate agent and loved spending her winters in Florida. She also enjoyed painting on canvas. Above all, her greatest joy was her family.
A Celebration of Life in Laurette’s honour will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). The family will receive condolences beginning at 12:00 p.m. The burial will take place at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at 2:30 p.m. Those unable to attend in person may join the family via live stream.
