Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, (Beechwood) acknowledges and understands the risks related to Covid-19.

To meet the needs of our families, clients and guests, Beechwood has taken the necessary precautions recommended by Ottawa Public Health and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario to provide a safe and clean environment for our guests and staff. We are committed to keep a clean and sanitary environment for all our families, clients and guests. We have undertaken enhanced cleaning protocols and procedures to increase the safety our clients and staff.

We ask that all visitors adhere to the new protocols and procedures, including:

  • Pre-registering attendance for all funeral services, for public health reason
  • Submitting to a mandatory temperature check before entering the Beechwood National Memorial Centre (building)
  • Wearing a mask within the building
  • Sanitizing hands upon entry into the building
  • Adhering to social distancing and limited physical contact outside your household members
  • Adhering to the directional signs
  • Adhering to any and all directions from Beechwood staff

Beechwood, to the best of our abilities, will meet all the requirements for post covid-19 services mandated under the federal, provincial and municipal public health guidelines.

Beechwood Cemetery is open to the public daily - Effective as of sunrise on Saturday, June 13 2020.

Admittance to the Cemetery grounds is permitted daily from sunrise to sunset (without appointment).

While visiting the cemetery, we ask that you adhere to the provincial gathering restrictions:

  • Only ten (10) people are permitted to be together;
  • Practise physical distancing of at least two metres (six feet) apart.

Beechwood National Memorial Centre

Beechwood office will remain closed to the visiting public. During regular business hours, Beechwood will continue to:

  • Make at-need arrangements, via electronic communications;
  • Make pre-need arrangements for both funeral and cemetery services;
  • Provide traditional and cremation burials and inurnments; and,
  • Maintain the cemetery grounds.

We ask that you adhere to this new phase of reopening and encourage you to visit Beechwood safely.

REOPENING NOTICE – Effective Saturday, May 9 2020

(ALL ACCESS THROUGH BEECHWOOD AVENUE ENTRANCE)

As restrictions are being lifted in the province of Ontario, Beechwood will start a phased-in approached to reopening the cemetery and funeral home to the public.

Beechwood is now allowing access to the cemetery:

  • Monday to Friday - 4:00 PM to Sunset;
  • Saturday and Sunday - Sunrise to Sunset.

While visiting the cemetery, we ask that you adhere to the provincial gathering restrictions:

  • Only five people are permitted to be together;
  • Practise physical distancing of at least two metres (six feet) apart.

This measure is to ensure the safety of our employees.

Beechwood Cemetery grounds and funeral home remain closed to the visiting public during regular business hours. During these regular business hours, Beechwood will continue to:

  • Make at-need arrangements, via electronic communications;
  • Make pre-need arrangements for both funeral and cemetery services;
  • Provide traditional and cremation burials and inurnments; and
  • Maintain the cemetery grounds.

We ask that you adhere to this new phase of reopening and encourage you to visit Beechwood safely. We reserve the right to close access to the cemetery should our visitors not properly maintain these new rules.

April 8 2020 - Update

To ensure the safety of its outside employees, Beechwood Cemetery is closed to the visiting public. This decision to close is also in response to recent measures implemented across the City of Ottawa under the guidance of Ottawa Public Health concerning COVID-19.

We are prioritizing our resources to serve the community in this uncertain time. Beechwood will continue to:

  • make at-need arrangements, via electronic communications;
  • make pre-need arrangements for both funeral and cemetery services, via electronic communications;
  • provide traditional and cremation burials and inurnments;

April 3 2020 - Update: Together

Together, we are facing a truly unprecedented situation. The global coronavirus pandemic is affecting all of our families, businesses, communities, and our way of life. During this time, I wanted to reach out and update you on how we’re approaching the situation at Beechwood.

First and foremost, our hearts go out to anyone who's been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. Our thoughts are especially with those who are sick, to whom we extend our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery. We're truly inspired by the selfless healthcare workers around the world who are on the front lines working tirelessly to care for people in need.

Secondly, at Beechwood we’re focused on the health and safety of our employees, families and communities and have made adjustments to our hours of service and are following governmental guidelines to limit the spread of the virus. 

Thirdly, as a Cemetery, Funeral Home and Crematorium, we are also an essential service and must stay available for our clients should they needs us. 

Lastly, we have received many inquiries from clients asking if they can still make cemetery and funeral arrangements in advance of need during this crisis, and the answer is YES.

March 25 2020 - Update: Response to Covid-19

Beechwood continues to express our commitment to assuring your safety and wellbeing. During the outbreak of the COVID-19,  and this time of uncertainty, we want you to know we are monitoring the situation closely and are working with our various partners to ensure, we can continue to provide the services that you have come to expect from Beechwood.

During this enhanced COVID-19 outbreak period we are taking enhanced precautions to protect our staff and the general public. A summary of changes to our operations are outline below.

Beechwood’s reduced hours of operations will be: 

  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m;
  • Saturday and Sunday: Closed – arrangements may be made by appointment only.

All, funeral services may be postponed and be rescheduled to a future date.  Beechwood will work with the families and their loved ones to ensure a service at a future date. We are committed to provide the services that you have come to expect to from Beechwood.

Beechwood’s cemetery services will:

  • Continue to provide cremation services to meet the needs of our community;
  • All urn interments will continue; and
  • Casket burials will continue as usual.

Beechwood will continue to meet and make arrangements with our clients during this period.  However, we encourage that all arrangements be conducted electronically and, when necessary,  by appointment and limited to two individuals.

We reaffirm that Ottawa Public Health recommends you: 

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just washed your hands with soap;
  • Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand (tissues are available throughout the facility);
  • If possible, stay home if you are sick;
  • Practice Social Distancing;
  • Avoid visiting people in hospitals or long-term care centres if you are sick.

March 13 2020 -  Beechwood would like to express our commitment to assuring your safety and wellbeing. Nothing is more important to us than ensuring families received the services that they deserve. We continue to work diligently to ensure our commitment to our families, guests and our communities.

In addition to our regular cleaning procedures, we have introduced the following measures:

  • Our facilities maintenance staff is sanitizing all public spaces and staff space throughout the day and after all public services, our overnight cleaning team is also taking extra care to sanitize all public areas including commonly touched items;
  • Hand sanitizer is available in our facilities;
  • Our restrooms are available and accessible for hand washing - as the best thing to do is wash your hands (for 20 seconds for proper duration);
  • Informational signs are displayed in every restroom to promote the best practise for health and prevent the spread of infection;
  • Beechwood staff will refrain from shaking hands to protect the health of our clients, families and staff members;
  • We are asking staff and visitors to stay home if they present symptoms. 

Beechwood cares deeply about keeping our guests healthy and safe. We need your attention and help to stay as prepared as possible. Ottawa Public Health recommends you:

For now, the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for the general population in Canada.  Beechwood will make all decisions based on verified information and directives issued by the appropriate public health authorities (such as the Public Health Agency of Canada and Ottawa Public Health).

For the duration of the COVID-19 outbreak, we strongly encourage people not to shake hands; however, we do understand the need for physical contact during the times of grief and believe that should be the choice of our guests, their families and friends.
