With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mae Yung (Mae) Draker, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Surrounded by her family, Mae passed away peacefully at the age of 71 at the Civic Hospital following an unexpected brain injury.

Mae was an inspiration and a role model to her two daughters, Stephanie (Randy) and Jessica (Joshua). She will be dearly missed by her brothers and sisters, Bun (Yan-Qing), Mae-Hah, Mae-Ling (Ron), Hazel (Per) and John (Christine), her nieces and nephews, Zi-Ann, Geoffrey, Nathan and Rachel, as well as many other family members and friends.

Mae will be remembered for her infectious laugh, zest for life, story-telling, cooking, and her passion for travel.  She enjoyed a very rewarding 37 year career with Royal Bank in Ottawa and cherished her many friendships with colleagues and customers.

Family and friends are invited to visit and pay their respects on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, ON) between 1:30pm and 4:00pm. A Memorial Service will be followed at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca) and/or Diabetes Canada (www.diabetes.ca).

Dear Hazel and Family,

It is with great sadness that Mae had left us all so suddenly.

I remember as a teenager living in Montreal when she invited me to sleep over her place in Ottawa, how I admired her so happily married to her non-Chinese husband (mixed marriages were a taboo back then), living in a little apartment made cozy by her. I still remember after hand washing the dishes, she said to leave them and let God dry the dishes.

Mae Yung will always be remembered in our hearts.
She was strong, a true survivor; she lived her life with conviction, and she left with dignity. There will be no more tears or crying or suffering in Heaven.

God bless her soul.

Sincerely,
Susan (Mak) Lim and Family

It was a shock to hear that Mae passed away so suddenly! My sincere condolences to the family. I will always remember the fun times I had with Mae working together, talking about our travels and of course sharing food with friends.

My sister Mae-Yung has always been my hero. She was a wonderful teacher, tremendously generous with her time, love and friendship. She was a talker! always chatty and never passed up the opportunity to say something funny or exchange some friendly words and a smile with complete strangers. She was a very patient listener with a wealth of helpful tips and great advice.
I'll never forget her enthusiasm for reading, travelling, discovering beautiful places, learning about different cultures, meeting people, making new friendships but always very happy to return to her cozy home after her adventures.
Sis, I will keep you in my heart forever. love and kisses
