Born and raised in Ottawa, Peter passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family and caring friends, knowing that he had lived life to the fullest with his devoted wife and best friend Loie by his side for more than 48 years. Predeceased by his parents Jo (nee Allison) and Harry Macdougall, sister Clare and brother Brock. Survived by his most dearly beloved Loie (nee Mulkins), his son Alexander (Alex) of Vancouver and his sister Jean and brother-in-law Stan Drabek of Calgary. Fondly remembered by his niece Marta Mulkins and the extended Mulkins family.

A proud graduate of Saint Patrick’s College (Ottawa) and a consummate public servant, Peter served with distinction in the House of Commons and various federal departments in the course of his extensive career. Recognized for his long-standing contribution to the community of Manor Park, he was a life member of the Manor Park Community Association.

Peter loved life, his family and friends, walking his beautiful golden retrievers, Bogie and Quincy and his fun-filled travels with Loie on the high seas and to the fireside inns of Vermont. He will be remembered for his keen interest in and engaging discussions of current affairs; his passion for nature and local wildlife, and his life-long enjoyment of music.

The family acknowledges with gratitude the caring medical teams at the Montfort Hospital and especially the Ottawa Civic Hospital campus.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on Saturday, December 7. Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. until the memorial service at 12 noon to be followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Ottawa Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

Loie, We are very sorry to learn that you have lost your dear Peter. We will miss his dry wit and easy charm. He was a devout Manor Parker who really cared about our community. Very sad.

We are so sorry to learn of Peter’s death. He was a gentle man who loved life, his family and Manor Park. He always looked at peace when Bogie or Quincy was at his side.

Loie: So many good memories of being with Peter on Manor Park issues and chatting as he walked by exercising your dog.
