It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of our father, William Yost in his 93rd year, on July 5, 2019.  Born May 20, 1926 in Caledonia, ON, he was the son of the late Arthur Yost and Rose Wagner.  He is survived by his children Alison Clohessy (Australia) and son David Yost (Caryn) (Virginia USA). Adoring Grandfather to Jon and James Clohessy (Australia) and Samantha and Victoria Yost.  Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years Elizabeth “Betty” Yost in 2017, along with stepmother Alma Yost, brother Gerry Yost, stepsister Mary Forrest and son-in-law Kim Clohessy.

A Visitation will take place at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Wednesday, July 17th from 10am to 2pm followed by the Funeral Service and Reception.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian War Museum.

It is with sadness that I bid farewell to a great patriarch in my life. I treasured Bill and Betty's visits wherever and whenever they took place and will not forget. My most sincere condolences to Alison, David and families.

Bill and I attended the University of Western Ontario, 1946-1950. Bill entered the Canadian Army and I the RCAF. Years later I worked for Bill for 2 years at National Defence Headquarters before I was sent to Vietnam for duties with the International Commission for Control and Supervision (ICCS). My late wife, Dorothy, and I enjoyed many social activities with Bill and Betty, including many events at the Canadian War Museum (CWM) where I had become the Chief Curator of Collections. Bill became President of the Friends of the CWM and supported my other assignment as the Executive Director of the Military Museums of Canada.

Bill played an important part in my military and civilian life. He expected the best from you in your duties and always set the best example to follow. He greeted you with a gracious smile and a warm handshake. His outstanding group of Canadian service medals indicates the dedicated service that he gave to Canada. I salute my dear friend and wish him eternal peace in the company of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Knew Bill Yost throughout my military career and worked with him when he retired and he became a public servant dealing with emergency measures issues. A perfect gentleman who I had the utmost respect for always...just a wonderfully kind man. He will be missed. May he Rest In Peace. Condolences to all his family and friends.

I was saddened to learn of Bill’s passing but pleased to realize he had a long life featuring dedicated service to the Canadian Forces and Canada. I had the distinct pleasure of working with on a special initiative to strengthen Defence Industrial Preparedness. His contributions were always balanced and offered in a respectful manner. Sincere condolences.
